How do you get into the NFL besides playing in college and going to the draft ?

What if a person wanted to be a part of an nfl team couldnt they try out at the team camp for like a certain amount of money if theyre like over 21 something ? If anyone knows anything let me know please. I wanna know if I should get ready for college or work hard with the help of coaches and others to prepare for try outs.

You can try out, but they recruit players that way infrequently, often just for a practice squad and even then you probably won’t get in.

You better be damn good to do that. Yeah, you can try out, but you better have exceptional speed, strength, or a cannon for a arm and accuracy to boot. The NFL ain’t peewee, pop warner, or high school.

Without any college playing experience you have zero chance. Many, but not all, teams do have open tryouts from time to time. Even if you were a 4 year college starter but went undrafted your chance of making a 53 man roster are extremely small, less than 1%.

I recommend that you go to a 1-aa school and play their for 3 years then you could have a chance to start in the NFL or at least be on the team roster, and even if you don’t play while you’re on the team roster always be prepared because you never know when the coaches will call your number out when somebody is injured in the 1st string. Or instead of going to college go to the Arena football league for about 2, 3, or 4 years and trust me you may not get the high salary but it will teach you the speed of the game before you go to the NFL.

College is the best way to get there, obviously….if you dont make the draft, you can still go to the CFL or semipro or even the AFL, and try to stand out enough there that you get the attention of an NFL team and get invited to work out for them.

I’d go to college. Once in a blue moon a guy may get invited to camp who hasn’t played in college. Typically in that situation they are a world class track star. Actually I believe that Bill Schroeder, the former Packers & Lions WR didn’t play college football…but he was a track star. I think you need to get an invitation to try out. By the way, “Invincible” was a little inaccurate. Papale was playing in the World League or AFL (something along those lines). They knew who he was during the tryouts because his 40 time was under 4.4 during his playing days. It was still a great story, but it was greatly exaggerated by Disney. If you don’t think you could go to college, your odds of making an arena league team are a LOT better. That may eventually lead to an NFL tryout if you rip it up. Look at Kurt Warner…although he also played college ball for Northern Iowa which is a very respected 1-AA school. Good luck!
