LIVERPOOL FC GOALS, GOALS, GOALS!.MP4

Fulham Defeated Manchester United 3-0

Bobby Zamora’s golden spell of form continued as Fulham cruised past a desperately disappointing Manchester United at Craven Cottage.

Zamora – touted for an England call-up in some quarters – scored his 10th goal of a prolific season and was Fulham’s spearhead as they gave an injury-hit United side a harrowing afternoon.

Danny Murphy, a scourge of United when at Liverpool and now again with Fulham, put the skids under United with a low finish after 22 minutes and the champions, with Michael Owen anonymous up front, never looked like mounting a recovery. Zamora was on the scoresheet seconds after the interval when he provided a comprehensive finish from Clint Dempsey’s header, and Damien Duff’s powerful drive completed a hugely-deserved victory for Roy Hodgson’s side after 75 minutes.

But it was Zamora who took the honours as he terrorised a makeshift United rearguard, with Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick pressed into service in unaccustomed roles.

The striker has had a chequered relationship with Fulham’s fans, but there was no doubting he has won over his critics and he was greeted with a well-earned standing ovation when he was substituted in injury time. United, under-strength or not, were awful and fell woefully short of taking advantage of an opportunity to put pressure on Chelsea and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. Sir Alex Ferguson was without Nemanja Vidic, sidelined by a calf injury, and Ryan Giggs was also out with a hamstring problem. How the champions missed them.

Tomasz Kuszczak rescued United after 17 minutes with an instinctive one-handed save from Zoltan Gera after Zamora chested the ball into his path 12 yards out.

But the goalkeeper should have done better when Fulham took the lead five minutes later.

United did not handle the pressure – Phelan

Paul Scholes was guilty of conceding possession 25 yards out and Murphy – scorer of Fulham’s opener in their 2-0 home victory over United last season – sent a low shot past Kuszczak, who reacted late to the danger. Scholes was then guilty of more carelessness on the ball that almost saw Fulham double their lead 14 minutes before half-time. Gera was able to find space on the right flank, but Zamora could only direct a header wide under close attention from Fletcher.

Ferguson’s hopes of a fast start to the second half were in shreds within seconds of the restart as Fulham swept forward instantly to double their lead. Duff’s cross was met by Dempsey at the far post, and he set up Zamora to hammer past Kuszczak. United made a double change after 57 minutes, with Ritchie de Laet and Darron Gibson making way for Fabio da Silva and Dimitar Berbatov.

Owen had suffered a miserable afternoon, starved of any meaningful service and unable to make the slightest impact on events, and it was no surprise when he was replaced by Danny Welbeck.

If the move was designed to revive United, it failed and Fulham extended their lead after 75 minutes when Duff cashed in on Zamora’s excellent lay-off to strike a crisp finish low past Kuszczak.

Manchester United Sign Michael Owen

Today Manchester United have announced that they have secured the signature of former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Michael Owen.

The striker ended his spell at Newcastle United after his contracted expired on his £120,000 per week contract.

The striker was gearing up to have to settle for a lower level Premiership club offering him a contract but was dealt a huge shock when the Manchester United manager called him and asked him if he would meet for breakfast.

Owen said about the contract:

“I had just begun to talk to other clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him next morning during which he told me that he wanted to sign me.

I agreed without a moment’s thought. This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands.

I am now looking forward to being a Manchester United player and I am fortunate that I already know so many of the players here.

I missed pre-season last year and am pleased that I will be starting from day one.

I want to thank Sir Alex for the faith he has shown in me and I give him my assurance that I will repay him with my goals and performances.”

The contract details for the 2 year contract is still to be revealed but rumours are circulating that the deal could be worth £20,000 per week but will also feature bonuses that the player can obtain in order to increase that weekly amount to somewhere within the region of the £120,000 per week he was on at Newcastle United.

Alex has been a football fan all of his life, supporting Chelsea Football Club since he was a child.

Why Manchester United Football Club are No.1 in England

Manchester United Football Club is an English football club, located at the Old Trafford stadium in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, and probably the most admired football club in the world, with over 50 million supporters across the world. Manchester United Football Club is a world-famous English football club, with a capacity of over 76,000 and the highest average gate in the league. Manchester United Football Club is perhaps the single thing for which the city of Manchester is most famed. The tradition of Manchester United football club is magnificnet and most fans have a real affinity to the club. Manchester has a tradition of excellence in sport. Manchester United Football Club is less than 2 from the University, first class cricket can be seen at Old Trafford, and Salford has one of the top Rugby League teams in the country, the celebrated Salford Reds.

Football

Since the late 1990s, the club has been one of the richest in the world, and until recently had the top revenue of any football club for many years running. Nearly overnight, English football re-invented itself as a glamorous sport with enormous commercial appeal. The enormous power and reach of TV is turning football into one of the world’s most lucrative sports. The club is one of the most triumphant clubs in England, having won the FA Premier League/Football League fifteen times, FA Cup eleven times and the European Cup/UEFA Champions League twice.

Cup

They also became the 1st English teams to participate in the European Cup, at the behest of the FA, who had deprived Chelsea the same opportunity the prior season, and reached the semi-final, only to be knocked out by Real Madrid. Tragedy hit the following season, when the plane carrying the team home from a European Cup match crashed on take-off at a refuelling break in Munich, Germany. The plane skidded off the end of the runway, through a fence and into an unoccupied house. Despite the accident, they reached the FA Cup final again, where they lost to Bolton Wanderers. Manchester United have won silverware on a frequent basis throughout their proud and successful history and on the domestic front have won the both the old First Division Championship and the Premier League, the old Second Division, and the FA Cup and League Cup. By the time Matt Busby left in 69 United had won five First Division titles, two FA Cup Finals and of course became the earliest English team to win the European Cup in 1968.

Fans

When Manchester United visited Thailand in 97, 1000s of United fans went to the national stadium in Bangkok to see their heroes in the flesh; but the closest most of The Clubs Asian supporters got to viewing their team is on national TV, where the whole British Premiership is promoted almost daily.

Up to 67,500 fans regularly pack into Old Trafford to see Manchester United play football. Like mentioned earlier, the biggest group of fans can be found in Asia. This has enabled Manchester United to create an interactive, on-line football community that will become the definitive match and club experience for all its fans, on match days, during the build up, and then the after-match scrutiny. Maintaining their position could not have been done without the fans across the world that have turned into United-consumers in the meantime. Of course, when in Manchester, Manchester United football club is one of the 1st things that springs to mind for nearly everyone, so a visit to their stadium at Old Trafford is a frequent pilgrimage for fans.

Linzi Stoppard Rocks Bonhams For Status Quo 40th Anniversary

Linzi Stoppard Rock Bonhams With Electric String Super Group FUSE……To mark the 40th anniversary of Status Quo’s first hit single, ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’, and to raise money for The Prince’s Trust, Status Quo hosted a star-studded auction at Bonhams auction house in London. The evening included a special performance by special guests Linzi Stoppard & Ben Lee – electric string super group FUSE.

FUSE are violinists Linzi Stoppard & Ben Lee – rock electric string super group. FUSE are redefining the stereo-type that the violin is just a classical instrument with their eagerly awaited debut album. Months were spent locked away in rehearsal rooms mastering the FUSE sound which is taking the violin further than any string act has dared to venture before – ROCK. Already labeled as “the most innovative string act for over a generation” FUSE are pioneering a new violin dawn.As Linzi says, “It’s completely fresh, no one thought that what we do was even possible. Everything you hear is violins! The style that we use when we play is more akin to that of a guitar player, with more soul and electricity – literally! We chose work from artists that are huge stadium acts, and that’s where we want to be. It is that big and that powerful – get some ear plugs! We specialise in blowing away people’s preconceptions.”FUSE are already finding friends in the rock fraternity who appreciate what they do. After raving, “I love what you’ve done, how did you get that sound?”, Francis Rossi appears on the album version of Quo’s ‘Down Down’, Nick Mason of Pink Floyd offered his services as a drummer and Roger Daltrey asked Linzi and Ben to support him!No reality TV, no stories, just talent and music. That is what FUSE is all about. What FUSE do can have a truly global appeal; there are no language barriers. Whilst they are very proudly a string band, listeners can sing along to the choruses that we all know. With the release of “FUSE” in March, FUSE will be bringing their unique brand of entertainment to a whole new audience, let’s hope they are ready. To celebrate Quo’s remarkable anniversary, fifty artists, musicians and celebrities took up the challenge from The Prince’s Trust and created their own versions of classic Quo single and album covers and these were all auctioned on the night with all net proceeds going to the charity. HRH Prince of Wales’ art material supplier Winsor & Newton provided all the art materials for the paintings and had the pleasure of attending the auction evening.  Paul Gambaccini opened the auction and started the bidding. Eight of the lots of paintings went under the hammer and the rest were sold by silent auction. A cheque of £100,000 was presented to the Prince’s Trust and one of the most popular paintings by David Shepherd called Heavy Traffic raised £18,000! Personalities as diverse as Brian Wilson, Sir Tom Stoppard, Andrew Marr, Alice Cooper, Fiona Phillips, Brian May, Nick Mason, Sir Steve Redgrave, Harry Hill, Chris Tarrant, Rolf Harris, David Shepherd, Chelsea and Liverpool FC and the cast of Coronation Street contributed works. The band’s frontman Francis Rossi said: “It’s marvellous because normally these things can go down a damp squib. The fact that we reached £100,000 is very nice. The Prince’s Trust is for young people that are not articulate or come from a poor background. Nobody gives them a chance. People are not usually concerned about some young kid from a council estate background.”Bidding initially took place online, but the highest bids were transferred to the Bonhams auction room in London. The event, which marked the 40th anniversary of Status Quo’s first hit Pictures Of Matchstick Men, saw the launch of a new retrospective album entitled Pictures: 40 Years Of Hits.

Never before has a string act dared ventured into the world of electric guitars like FUSE in 2009 ? it?s a first. Don?t be fooled by the incredible guitar-like sounds, arrangements, techniques and solos ? these are not guitars you are listening to but electric violins FUSE-STYLE.
