Chelsea will need to overturn a poor recent record away in Big Four matches if they are to defeat Liverpool in the Premiership game at Anfield on February 1.On paper, Chelsea’s away record this season of eight wins, two draws and a single loss, would make them worth betting on. But a closer look shows that the wins have come against weaker opponents.Of Chelsea’s last seven away games against Big Four opponents, they have drawn three and lost four, including the confidence-sapping 3-0 hiding at Old Trafford. Neither does their recent patchy away form offer much encouragement for spread bettors wanting to back Chelsea: their last three Premiership away games have brought two draws and a loss. The good news for Chelsea is that Liverpool have also been faltering in their race for a first League title since 1990. A run of four draws and two wins from their last six games at Anfield is not the football of champions. With Chelsea finding away wins elusive and Liverpool struggling for home wins, a draw might look the attractive sports spread betting option. But the two sides realize the importance of three points after seeing Manchester United surge past them.Certainly, both teams have been feeling the heat from Old Trafford, and showing signs of strain. Chelsea striker Nicholas Anelka spoke this week of the ‘absolute necessity’ to defeat Liverpool if his side is to challenge for the Premiership, echoing his boss Luiz Felipe Scolari’s comments about a ‘must-win game’ ahead of the 3-0 drubbing at Old Trafford. Some of Chelsea’s pressure seems self-imposed.Meanwhile, Liverpool also showed signs of feeling intimidated by Manchester United when boss Rafa Benitez entered into a well-publicized war of words with rival manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Each rival should take heart from Ferguson’s prediction that Manchester United will falter soon.An away win for Chelsea would be hugely significant. Wins at Anfield for Jose Mourinho’s side were important stepping stones on the way to lifting the Premier League in 2005 and 2006. An away win would also restore the confidence sapped at Old Trafford three weeks ago.Chelsea know they must start beating the Big Four teams. The rot set in back in October, when Liverpool ended an 86-game unbeaten run in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge through Xabi Alonso’s deflected goal. A further loss at home to Arsenal followed, then came the away defeat to Manchester United. For their part, Liverpool need to recover the inspirational form which saw them thrash Newcastle 5-1 away in December. A steady stream of draws won’t be enough to lift the Premiership trophy. With both sides under pressure to win, expect goals. Football spread bettors will be interested to know that nearly 20 per cent of Chelsea’s strikes have come between the 50th and 60th minutes this season. Conversely, Liverpool have scored nearly 18 per cent of their goals between the 70th and 80th minutes. Spread bettors should also take note that Chelsea have been 1-0 down at half-time in six out of their last seven away games against Big Four opposition, managing to pull back to parity in half of them. This is the happy season for football spread betters who are all game for the much awaited game of the season with enthusiasm and excitement.

The glorious Manchester United achieves to keep the head position of the English Premier League after defeating 1-0 the West Ham United, victory that gave them the three points needed to move on and take the throne away from Liverpool, that won it momentaneously on Saturday after overcame Portsmouth 3-2, in what was the 25th match-day of the league.
This encounter was not as easy as the Red Devils thought it would be, due to the strong fight the Hammers gave them and also to the fact that they could not count with the participation of the forward, Wayne Rooney, who was out due to an injury. However Manchester began taking charge with the assistance of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov in the field.
Regardless of the domain Manchester had during the first part, could not reach the box contrary, limiting the game to constant shots lacking of menace towards West Ham, which figured out how to repel them.
At the minute 20, the Reds saw the opportunity to score coming along, which was captured by the Bulgarian Berbatov, but unfortunately for him, it happened during an offside action, which meant the goal was disallowed. Manchester continued with its hits straight to the goalpost, causing anxiety in the West Ham, that at a minute before finishing the first period was close to make its first mark, but the red defense stopped them.
For the second half were the 11 from Upton Park the ones that hold the sphere. Trying to reach the rival zone with some long distance strikes that –although could almost reach their purpose– did not cause much impression on Sir Alex Ferguson club, who in a good football explosion achieve their triumphal mark.
Thanks to a good pass from Scholes to the precise Giggs, who with impressive moves managed to evade two adversaries until reaching the contrary area, where at the 62’ and with a powerful kick crossed the frame protected by Robert Green.
Right after Manchester United grab the lead in the scoreboard, the hosts tried to even the situation, but despite all efforts they couldn’t accomplish it, since Edwin Van der Sar, goalie of the Reds, never lost the calm, not even with ingress of Diego Tristán –who did not had much time to stand out, as he entered at the 87th minute.
With this victory, the eighth uninterruptedly, the leaders demonstrated their capacity and playing high level by not falling under the pressure Liverpool put on them the day before. Besides, with this triumph the Red Devils reach already thirteen Premier encounters without receiving a goal against; which also helped Van der Sar impose a new record of 1.312 minutes goals-free.
This triumph allowed Manchester United continue in the crest of the English league with 56 points, follow by Liverpool, their toughest enemies, that after this match-day sum 54 points; meanwhile, Aston Villa ascends to the third spot with 51 points, thanks to its conquest before Blackburn (2-0) and the draw 0-0 between Hull City and Chelsea, that descended to the fourth position.

The game has been highly anticipated by both sets of supporters ever since the draw was made last month with City fans desperate to prove that they are now the team to beat in Manchester. The fact that the game was called off a fortnight ago, thanks to the heavy snow, has only heightened expectation around the city. With United looking incapable of shrugging off the inconsistency that has blighted their season so far City sense that now is the perfect time to deliver a knock-out blow to their neighbours. However, after winning his first four games in charge, City boss Roberto Mancini finally tasted defeat against Everton on Saturday and it remains to be seen how his side react against the champions. Both sides will be hard pushed to match the 4-3 thriller at Old Trafford earlier in the season when a 96th minute Michael Owen strike won the game for the hosts to maintain United’s position as top dogs.
Both teams have suffered defensive problems in recent weeks, so the winner of this battle will be crucial in deciding the outcome of the game. De Jong and Fletcher are key figures in protecting their back four, but Fletcher has more to his game, as his two goals against City last September testify.City now operate a rigid 4-4-2 system under Roberto Mancini, a formation dismissed as outdated by Sir Alex Ferguson and his former assistant Carlos Queiroz more than five years ago. Ferguson’s preference for 4-3-3 won him the Champions League in 2008, but without Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tévez, the system now looks flawed. The Scarf versus The Hairdryer, Bobby Manc versus the Godfather. This could develop into the managerial clash that defines the next five years if Mancini builds on his promising start at Eastlands. Ferguson has seen off numerous rivals, but City’s money will make Mancini a formidable foe.Probable teams:Manchester City (4-4-2): Given; Garrido, Kompany, Richards, Zabaleta; Petrov, Barry, De Jong, Wright-Phillips; Tévez, Bellamy.Manchester United (4-3-3): Van der Sar; Evra, Vidic, Evans, Rafael; Giggs, Fletcher, Gibson; Obertan, Rooney, Valenmcia.Referee: M Dean (Wirral)

Bobby Zamora’s golden spell of form continued as Fulham cruised past a desperately disappointing Manchester United at Craven Cottage.
Zamora – touted for an England call-up in some quarters – scored his 10th goal of a prolific season and was Fulham’s spearhead as they gave an injury-hit United side a harrowing afternoon.
Danny Murphy, a scourge of United when at Liverpool and now again with Fulham, put the skids under United with a low finish after 22 minutes and the champions, with Michael Owen anonymous up front, never looked like mounting a recovery. Zamora was on the scoresheet seconds after the interval when he provided a comprehensive finish from Clint Dempsey’s header, and Damien Duff’s powerful drive completed a hugely-deserved victory for Roy Hodgson’s side after 75 minutes.
But it was Zamora who took the honours as he terrorised a makeshift United rearguard, with Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick pressed into service in unaccustomed roles.
The striker has had a chequered relationship with Fulham’s fans, but there was no doubting he has won over his critics and he was greeted with a well-earned standing ovation when he was substituted in injury time. United, under-strength or not, were awful and fell woefully short of taking advantage of an opportunity to put pressure on Chelsea and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. Sir Alex Ferguson was without Nemanja Vidic, sidelined by a calf injury, and Ryan Giggs was also out with a hamstring problem. How the champions missed them.
Tomasz Kuszczak rescued United after 17 minutes with an instinctive one-handed save from Zoltan Gera after Zamora chested the ball into his path 12 yards out.
But the goalkeeper should have done better when Fulham took the lead five minutes later.
United did not handle the pressure – Phelan
Paul Scholes was guilty of conceding possession 25 yards out and Murphy – scorer of Fulham’s opener in their 2-0 home victory over United last season – sent a low shot past Kuszczak, who reacted late to the danger. Scholes was then guilty of more carelessness on the ball that almost saw Fulham double their lead 14 minutes before half-time. Gera was able to find space on the right flank, but Zamora could only direct a header wide under close attention from Fletcher.
Ferguson’s hopes of a fast start to the second half were in shreds within seconds of the restart as Fulham swept forward instantly to double their lead. Duff’s cross was met by Dempsey at the far post, and he set up Zamora to hammer past Kuszczak. United made a double change after 57 minutes, with Ritchie de Laet and Darron Gibson making way for Fabio da Silva and Dimitar Berbatov.
Owen had suffered a miserable afternoon, starved of any meaningful service and unable to make the slightest impact on events, and it was no surprise when he was replaced by Danny Welbeck.
If the move was designed to revive United, it failed and Fulham extended their lead after 75 minutes when Duff cashed in on Zamora’s excellent lay-off to strike a crisp finish low past Kuszczak.

Owen scored a famous hat trick to send Manchester United trough to the 2nd round of the champions league. This would have taken away all of Man unites injury was and problems as they recorded a great win over German champions Wolfsburg.
This was a great achievement by united as it represented only the third time in more than 10 attempts against German opposition in Europe, that Man u actually won. Plus, they were missing key man makes the win even more remember able..
This was Owen in top forum, scoring his first three-timer hat trick since he arrived Old Trafford side in the summer – also this was his first hat trick since 2005 a very long streak- but he will never forget this night.
The result means united curse through to the final knockout stages and enter the draw this week Friday, looking forward to their next opposition. The next round may not be easy, but at least Old Trafford will host the second leg rather. Giving the Man u team the best chance of progression.
Sir Alex Ferguson is a winner, so he always wants to win.
But he was missing over 14 senior players with his injury plagued side. It was monumental feat given that he and his team won so comfortable.
Wolfsburg had to win this game to stay in the competition. With united without thier defence they provided unlesss.
