The misery in East London looks to continue with West Ham losing away to Bolton on Tuesday 3-1. The defeat means they are stuck in the bottom three with Bolton two points ahead. Those who may be looking for faults would be wrong to point the fingers at Steve Clark and Mr Zola. They are both marvelous professionals who do everything in their power to get the team going.
Last season, West Ham were scoring freely and dare I say it, looked a little like Arsenal at times in there free playing style. This season however, with injuries and no money to invest, West Ham have begun to falter.
The reason is not because they are playing badly, yes they miss Matthew Upson at the back and they do leak goals but should Upson return sooner rather than later things would surely look to be on the up again. Had West Ham the cash to be able to strengthen in this particular area then replacements would have fitted in neatly and they would be standing steadily in around 10th to 12th rather than that of the dreaded last three.
Many will be aware of the Christmas curse, those that are at the bottom of the Premiership at this time are usually relegated come May, the only ever exception being West Bromwich Albion when Bryan Robson was in charge although that took a last day miracle which looks unlikely to be repeated.
